A600 1MB Memory Expansion

Introduction

This memory expansion doubles your Commodore Amiga 600 computer's memory. Extra memory is essential for many games which require 2MB of RAM to work.

System Chip/Graphics RAM will be increased from the standard 1MB (1024Kb) to 2MB (2048Kb).

Real Time Clock Installed

Hardware Installation

1 Power down the Amiga and monitor. Unplug all cables from the Amiga.

2 Anti-statically discharge yourself before handling the device. It is recommended to use an E.S.D. wrist strap for the installation process (such as Amiga Kit product code TLSASW001).

3 Turn over the Amiga and remove the plastic trap door cover by using a small coin/flat blade screw driver to gently lever open the plastic latch.

4 Align the memory expansion's 80-pin expansion connector with the gold contacts on the motherboard and push it on until fully in place.

5 Replace trap door cover, turn over, connect all cables and power on.

Features

  • 1MB RAM to boost total system memory to 2MB
  • Memory auto configures with no drivers required
  • Header for optional Real Time Clock module
  • Additional 22-pin A1200™ clock-port header for additional expansions (available separately)
  • Two-page colour manual included

Trouble Shooting

When installed in the Amiga, the memory expansion will automatically configure as extra Chip memory and will not need any software drivers.

The additional memory can be verified by two methods:

1 Check the Workbench title bar. The expanded memory will be added to the standard memory and displayed as graphics mem

2 Open Shell and type Avail to check extra memory is available

If the memory expansion is not recognised when installed, then each gold contact on the 80-pin motherboard expansion slot may need thorough cleaning. We recommend using electrical contact cleaning fluid with a small anti-static cleaning brush.

Clock Port Expansions

The Clock Port connector starts from pin 19 to pin 40 and not pin 1 to 22 as maybe expected. Third party expansion manufacturers designate pin 19 as "pin 1" of their expansion whilst others use pin 40 as "pin 1".

It is very important to review the third party documentation and double check the orientation of the red key wire of Clock Port cable which interconnects the A600 memory expansion with the Clock Port expansion. Incorrect orientation could damage the hardware.

Do not connect any other Clock Port expansions to the RTC MODULE connector except for the compatible L-shaped Real Time Clock module. The orientation of the Real Time Clock module is shown as a white outline printed on the memory expansion circuit board.
